New students may be required to take Columbia College's Language and Writing Assessment (LWA). The assessment is used to determine the student's placement in the College's English and ESL Programs. A student whose English is found to be insufficient for the academic program into which he or she has been accepted will be required to enter the ESL Program for the necessary language preparation needed for academic studies.
