Students must have adequate medical insurance while studying in Canada. Private medical insurance for new students may be purchased in the student's home country or at the College during orientation. Students may also purchase private insurance online. For more information, please view the Student Sure PDF file.
Under law, students planning to be in Canada for longer than 6 months must buy public health insurance coverage under the British Columbia Medical Services Plan. New arrivals to British Columbia become eligible for this coverage following a waiting period of the month of arrival plus the following two months. Students should buy private medical insurance to cover the period from the date of arrival in Canada until the time they are eligible for government insurance.
