Philosophy 101

Description of Course:
An introduction to the scope and methods of philosophical inquiry. Topics may include the nature of knowledge and justification, truth, the existence of God, mind and body, personal identity, and freedom and determinism. Classic and contemporary readings are examined.
 
Course Outline:
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the discipline, what philosophy is and how it is practiced, through examination of selected issues in the areas of metaphysics and epistemology. A typical semester might cover for example, skepticism, the nature of empirical knowledge and justification, the possibility of knowledge of reality, personal identity and free will.
