Prerequisite: C+ or higher in English 098, 099 LWA placement or equivalent external score
 
Description of Course:
A study of human society and social interaction. The theoretical perspectives of functionalism, conflict theory and symbolic interactionism are examined along with basic concepts such as culture. An overview of research methodology is provided, and social stratification, socialization and deviance are discussed. Students are encouraged to cultivate a “socialization imagination” while considering how human behaviour is shaped by group life, and group life is affected by individuals.
