Associate Degrees

Associate of Arts Degree

Students in this program complete 20 courses at the first and second year levels, including:

  • Two courses in first year English (one Composition course and one Literature course)
  • Three courses in Mathematics/Science including at least one course in Mathematics, Computer Science or Statistics and one course in a laboratory Science
  • Twelve courses, including at least six at the second year level (in at least two different subject areas) in Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts. This must include two courses in Social Sciences, two courses in Humanities other than English, and eight additional courses in Arts
  • Three courses in Arts, Mathematics, Science or other areas

Associate of Arts Degree, Business Administration Concentration

Students in this program complete all the requirements for an Associate of Arts Degree (as specified above) but include among their selected courses:

  • A course in first year Calculus
  • First year Microeconomics and Macroeconomics (ECON 103 and ECON 105)
  • Four courses in Business

(Completion of this Degree requires students to take more than the minimum requirements for an Associate of Arts Degree, but the Program is easily modified to meet the requirements for direct entrance to Business at UBC or SFU.)


Associate of Arts Degree, Economics Concentration

Students in this program complete all the requirements for an Associate of Arts Degree (as specified above) but include among their selected courses:

  • Two courses in first year calculus (either MATH 111 and 112 or MATH 113 and 114)
  • First year Microeconomics and Macroeconomics (ECON 103 and ECON 105)
  • A Statistics course (MATH 206 or BUSN 291)
  • Three courses in Economics at the second year level, including Canadian Microeconomic  Policy (ECON 290) and Canadian Macroeconomic Policy (ECON 291)

(Completion of this Degree fulfills the requirements for a Flexible Pre-major in Economics.)


Associate of Arts Degree, Mass Communication Concentration

Students in this program complete all the requirements for an Associate of Arts Degree (as specified above) but include among their selected courses:

  • Introduction to Communication Theory (CMNS 110)
  • Explorations in Communication (CMNS 130)
  • Three courses in Mass Communication at the second year level

Associate of Science Degree

Students in this program complete 20 courses at the first and second year levels, including:

  • Two courses in first year English (one Composition course and one Literature course)
  • Two courses in Mathematics including at least one course in Calculus
  • Twelve courses, including at least six at the second year level (in at least two different subject areas) in Science including at least one course in a Laboratory Science
  • Two courses in Arts other than English
  • Two courses in Arts, Science or other areas

Associate of Science Degree, Computer Science Concentration

Students in this program complete all the requirements for an Associate of Science Degree (as specified above) but include among their selected courses:

  • Introduction to Computer Science and Programming I (CSCI 120)
  • Introduction to Computer Science and Programming II (CSCI 125)
  • Introduction to Digital and Computer System Design (CSCI 150)
  • Calculus I (MATH 113)
  • Three courses in Computer Science at the second year level

(Completion of this Degree fulfills the requirements for a Flexible Pre-major in Computer Science.)


Associate of Science Degree, Mathematics Concentration

Students in this program complete all the requirements for an Associate of Science Degree (as specified above) but include among their selected courses:

  • First year Calculus (MATH 113 and 114)
  • Discrete Mathematics (MATH 120)
  • Three courses in Mathematics at the second year level. These will be Calculus III (MATH 213), Analysis I (MATH 225) and Linear Algebra and Differential Equations (MATH 252)
  • Two Computer Science courses, Introduction to Computer Science and Programming I and II (CSCI 120 and 125)

(Completion of this Degree fulfills the requirements for a Flexible Pre-major in Mathematics.)
