PERMITS FOR WORKING OFF-CAMPUS – INFORMATION SESSION

The Government of Canada allows international students attending private degree-granting institutions to apply for permission to work on a part-time basis while studying in Canada. Columbia College students are therefore allwed to apply for Off-Campus Work Permits.

The College holds Information Sessions on a regular basis. Students should check the College website or newspaper (CC Rider) for information on these sessions. Students interested in applying for a Work Permit must attend an Information Session at the College. The College will not support an application from a student who has not attended a Session, and this means that no Permit will be granted.

To qualify for a Work Permit a student:

• must be registered in an Associate Degree (University Transfer) Program
• must possess a valid Study Permit
• must have been registered on a full-time* basis at Columbia College in at least 6 of the last 12 months
• must have satisfactory academic standing (min Cumulative GPA of 2.0)
• must attend an information session

(* “Full-time” usually means registered in at least 9 university credits per semester, or registration in at least 24 credits over three semesters. Only university credit courses count – non-credit English courses such as English 099 do not.)

Students who receive a Work Permit are required to be full-time students at the College. This means completing at least 24 credits in an academic year. Students must also maintain a satisfactory academic standard - this usually means maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better.
