The end of the semester draws near and we have some important reminders, so please pay close attention:

If you have a locker, please empty it by Thursday, December 10th and return your lock to Deborah and Nav to get your locker refund.

Final grades will be posted on your student portal by 10 am on Monday, December 14th and then registration begins. As a reminder, tuition and homestay fees must be paid before you register. It’s important to pay 3-5 days ahead of your registration appointment for the funds to go through, so plan ahead lest you miss the chance to get the courses you need or want. Please refer to Deborah’s email from Tuesday (Dec 1) for all the detailed instructions.

Now for the fun stuff:

The Holly Jolly End of Semester event is today! Don’t forget your tickets and we will see you at 3 pm in room 320/330. There are still 10 tickets available and you can get them from me throughout lunch and Nav in the Bookstore after lunch if there are any left. I can’t wait to see you guys at the event!

The Music 11 Recital is tomorrow from 4:00-4:30 PM in the double room 320/330. Please come support your classmates and students! There will be a socially distanced seating arrangement. If you cannot attend in person, there will be a video made of the performance. Please email or Teams message me to request a copy.

Spots for Ski Chalet filled up yesterday, but because of popular demand, I opened up a few more spots. If you have been wondering what to do with all your time at home during the break, why not join this activity? It’s 1.5 hours of high energy games, challenges, stories and real hot chocolate! You can find the signup link in your email and on Teams in the North Campus general channel.

This will be the last announcement of Fall 2020. Great job getting through this special semester. Persevering through tough times is not easy and you guys made it. You should be so proud of yourselves! To those who are graduating this semester and leaving CC, congratulations and we wish you all the best in your future! To everyone else, stay safe during the break and see you again in January.

Welcome to the last week of classes! At the end of every semester, we celebrate! Holly Jolly is coming up this Thursday. It will be from 3-6 PM. Join us in Room 320 for games, a gingerbread house contest, music, dancing, video games, free food and more! Today at lunch, there will be a ticket booth in the Student Lounge for you to get your ticket to the event.

As some of you may know, this semester we have a Music 11 class. After a whole semester of learning and practicing, this Friday, they will perform a few pieces that they have been working on! Join us this Friday for the Music 11 Recital happening at 4pm in Room 320. If you have friends in Music 11, come and support them! Instructors, you are all invited as well!

Final exams are coming up next week! This is an important reminder that you must be physically here to write your exams in person, here, on campus. If you have any questions or concerns, please email Sarah by the end of the week.

A friendly reminder to Homestay students that Homestay Fees for Winter 2021 are due on December 18. Many of you still have not paid, so please make plans to do that ASAP. Contact Rosemary if you have any questions or concerns.

In December during your break, join us online for Ski Chalet! With the pandemic getting more serious as the weather gets colder, you are encouraged to stay home during the break. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun! This 90-minute virtual activity features team-building games like Winter Challenges, learning about winter monsters, and real hot chocolate. It looks like this event is quite popular because there are only 5 spots left! Check your email for the signup link.

Thursday, November 26, 2020

A new virtual activity is coming up in December: Ski Chalet! This will be our 5th virtual team building game of the year. In the past, we had Online Olympics, Murder Mystery in Ancient Egypt, War of Wizards and International Monster Hunter. These are high energy team building games on Zoom led by a professional virtual game master. In Ski Chalet, we will set up teams, play a round of Winter Challenges, listen to wickedly fun stories about winter monsters AND we are going to enjoy real hot cocoa together! Pay attention to your email tomorrow for more info about this world-class virtual holiday event.

Final exams begin in about two weeks. Please be aware that finals must be written in person only. There will be no online testing. You must be physically on campus to write your exams. If you have any questions or concerns, please email Sarah.

As a reminder, Holly Jolly Fun & Games has been moved to next Thursday after school. The Student Council will be adding some of our North Campus End of Semester Party vibes with a COVID-friendly twist. So now, in addition to the games, competitions, and quality time together, you can also expect music, dancing, video games, free food and a chance to celebrate the end of the Fall 2020 semester with a bang. This is a lot of students’ favourite event of the year and you are all invited!

As an international student, coming to Canada can be exciting but it also can be very busy. While you are getting used to your new surroundings, the last thing you want to think about is your finances. That is why our Career Advisor Linus is partnering with RBC to help you learn and discover financial literacy. Tomorrow at 4 pm, join the online Canadian Banking event to learn Canadian banking, the ins and outs of credit and good budgeting habits. There are already 33 students signed up and there is a lot of room for more! Check your email for the signup and join us tomorrow at 4 pm.

Homestay Fees for Winter 2021 are due on December 18. If you are living in a Columbia College homestay, please check your email for your homestay invoice. Plan ahead to pay your fees in time otherwise, it may affect your ability to register for courses.

There are a few activities coming up this week:

On Thursday, there is an online Canadian Banking event hosted by Linus and RBC. You can learn all about how banks work in Canada and tips for financial success from professionals at RBC. Linus sent an email about this event yesterday, so please check your emails for the details and signup link.

Holly Jolly Fun & Games – This community event is a chance for students to spend quality time together, connect, play games, and celebrate the holidays. We are postponing this event to next Thursday. Some students have been selected for scholarships and awards and the Awards Ceremony is this Thursday at 4 pm. The Student Council decided to move Holly Jolly Fun & Games to next Thursday, and at the same time, we can celebrate the end of the semester together. With that said, we could use a few volunteers for this event. If you are new to CC, a tradition we have at the North Campus is an End of Semester Party on the last day of classes. Of course, we cannot have a party this year, but we are working on a COVID-friendly modified version. If you are interested in helping with the End of Semester event, please message me on Teams! We are also having a Student Council meeting right now in the Student Lounge which you are invited to join.

Orientation Leadership Team – Orientation Leaders Training will be on Thursday, December 10 at 12:30 PM. If you want to be part of the Orientation Team, you must attend this training session. Applications for the Orientation Team will be accepted until the last day of classes on December 4th, so be sure to take some time in the next few weeks to fill that out if you want to join!

The Orientation Leadership Info Session is today after school from 4-5 pm. It will be delivered only on Zoom as Zerlinda is working from home today. Orientation Leadership is a great chance for you to gain volunteer experience for university applications, learn leadership skills, and most importantly make a positive impact on the new students who will be joining us in January. To join today’s info session, please check your emails for the Zoom link from Zerlinda.

Orientation Leadership Team - Orientation is one of the most fun volunteer opportunities at CC and we are now recruiting! Do you remember how you felt when you were a new student at CC? Remember how confusing everything was and how you didn’t know anybody? By joining the team, you can help make a difference for the new students in January. You also get the opportunity to receive leadership training and you will learn transferable skills like group facilitation, public speaking, mentorship and more that look really good on your resume. If this sounds interesting and you want to know more, there will be an Orientation Leadership info session on Monday, November 23, 2020, after school at 4 pm in Room 314.

Let’s make our space merry and bright together! Please check your email for contest details and rules.

The Student Council presents Holly Jolly Fun & Games. This is an opportunity for you to have some fun with your friends after school next Thursday. COVID-19 Restrictions - As a reminder, new restrictions were announced on November 7th that social gatherings of any size are not allowed. You may socialize with people in your core bubble. A core bubble includes the people you spend the most time with and are physically close to, which can be your immediate household members such as roommates and family. It may also contain a partner, relative, or friend. However, do not invite friends or extended family to your household and do not gather outdoors. We are all working together to flatten the curve! Thank you for doing your part.

Holiday Cards - I still have not received some holiday cards that I gave out. You know who you are. If you have a card or two, please finish them up today and give them to me. I will be in the Student Lounge at lunch.

Deck the Door contest - We are having a holiday door decoration contest called Deck the Door and you are invited to join! Teachers you have first dibs on your classroom door. So far I have two classes signed up already! Today is the last chance, so please sign up by the end of the day. You will have until December 1st to decorate your door. Try to cover the whole door, but if there is a window remember to keep it clear. There will be prizes for the most creative, most festive, and most liked doors. Tomorrow, doors will become open to everyone, so students if you and your friends would like to grab a door and decorate it, I will email information on how to sign up tomorrow.

Monday, November 9, 2020

Remembrance Day Stat - As a reminder, there is no school this Wednesday due to Remembrance Day. Field Day (sports) this Wednesday on Trillium Turf is also cancelled.

We need to help flatten the curve! Dr. Bonnie Henry announced new restrictions for the next 2 weeks until Nov 23rd.  Any kind of indoor physical fitness classes and facilities have closed for this time period.  There can be no gatherings of any sort at your homes or in restaurants unless it is the people who you live with. Stay in whenever possible, wear a mask and stay 2m/6ft apart.

Are you sick? – Just a reminder that if you have any symptoms, i.e. sore throat, fever, body aches, please stay home.  DO NOT COME TO SCHOOL. Email NCA and your instructors and let us know if you will not be attending.  If you feel well enough, you can participate in your classes online. Once you contact us, we will notify the nurses and they will follow up with you.

Nurse Claire sent a couple of very informative emails on Nov 2 and Nov 7. Please check your emails.

Holiday Cards – This week, you have the opportunity to write a Holiday Card home to your families! Find Zerlinda in the Student Lounge on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday to write a card. The cards will be mailed on Friday.

Thanks to all Halloween volunteers - Shout out to all the people who helped make our Halloween a great success last week: Nav, Claire, Sarah, Gordon, Bea, Amanda, Karen, Alyana, and Deep. Special recognition goes to Deep who is an alumnus and continues to be dedicated to making things happen for North Campus. All the fun we had last week would not have been possible without all the people mentioned above, so please give them a round of applause!

Best staff costume - Voting will be open until 12pm today for anyone who missed it on Friday. Please check the white board at the top of the stairs and vote for your favourite costume.

Literacy and Numeracy Exams start today at 12pm.  Please check your emails and the white board at the top of the stairs to see if you write and when you write.  Emails for Wed and Thur exams will go out this morning.

Pizza Party on Friday - To celebrate the end of mid-terms, we will be having Pizza and Pop for lunch on Friday, starting from 11:30-12:30 in room 320/330.

Course planning – It is that time of the year again to start course planning! Gordon is hosting Course Planning Workshops this week on Wednesday and Friday after school (4 pm). There is also an extra workshop on Wednesday morning at 9:15 if you don’t have class during first period. Also, Gordon sent you an email on Monday with detailed instructions about course planning. If you want to make sure you get the courses you need and want, check your emails!

Do you need a tuition invoice? – We have been noticing that sometimes students are not getting the courses they chose because of late tuition payment. So this is your friendly reminder to plan ahead and pay your tuition on time so you don’t lose your courses. If you need an invoice, please email Deborah and Nav at [email protected] to request an invoice letter. Please do it THIS WEEK if you need one.
