### Description of Course

This is a developmental course in Mathematics intended for weaker students who wish to upgrade their Mathematics skills in order to take a first year University Pre-Calculus Course. Students learn to comprehend and apply intermediate algebra and arithmetic skills. The course is adapted to individual learning differences by working closely with each student.

### Course Outline

• Numerical Arithmetic Operations
• Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in the set of integers, order of operations, factors and multiples, prime numbers, divisibility tests,Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic, least common multiple, greatest common divisor

• Rational numbers
• Operations with rational numbers, expressing a fraction in lowest terms

• Roots and exponents
• Integer exponents and operations on integer exponents, fractional exponents, roots.

• Symbolic arithmetic operations
• Polynomials: degree of a polynomial, addition, subtraction, multiplication, factorization of polynomials

• Rational expressions
• Reducing rational expressions, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, compound fractions

• Linear equations and lines
• Rectangular coordinates , plotting points, linear equations, graphing a line

• Methods of solving quadratic equations

### Evaluation

30% Two one-hour tests Homework and participation Final Exam
