Precalculus Plus

Length of Course: 14 weeks

Number of Credits: 3 credits

Prerequisites: BC Precalculus 11 or equivalent with a C or Math Placement Test 


Course Description

Learning outcomes include: writing mathematics with precise symbols and notations, understanding the behavior of basic functions like polynomial functions, rational functions, algebraic functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, trigonometric functions and inverse trigonometric functions, graphing of functions, applying the ideas of functions as mathematical models in solving problems.

Functions and Their Graphs (Functions, The Coordinate Plane and Graphs, Function Transformations and Graphs)

Functions and Their Graphs (Composition of Functions, Inverse Functions, Graphical Approach to Inverse Functions)

Week 4

Lines and Linear Functions, Quadratic Functions and Conics

Week 5

Exponents, Polynomials 

Week 6

Rational Functions, Logarithms as Inverses of Exponential Functions, Applications of the Power Rule for Logarithms

Week 7

Applications of the Product and Quotient Rules for Logarithms, Exponential Growth

Week 8

Number e and the Natural Logarithm, Approximations and area with e and ln

Week 9

Trigonometric Functions (The Unit Circle, Radians, Cosine and Sine)

Week 10

Trigonometric Functions (Cosine and Sine, Trigonometry in Right Triangles, Trigonometric Identities)

Week 11

Trigonometric Algebra and Geometry (Inverse Trigonometric Functions, Inverse Trigonometric Identities, Using Trigonometry to Compute Area)

Week 12

Trigonometric Algebra and Geometry (The Law of Sines, The Law of Cosines, Double-Angle and Half-Angle Formulas, Addition and Subtraction Formulas)
