What is CC START?
Columbia College Student Teaching, Adaptation, Readiness Training (CC START) is the college’s welcome gift for our first-semester students. It is comprised of three self-paced learning modules easily accessible through our learning platform, during orientation and throughout the semester.
Some of the key areas covered in CC START include:

- Course structure and grading components
- Academic integrity
- Student expectations and rights
- Path to graduation
Introduction to Study Skills
- Time management
- Reading and notetaking tips
- Understanding individual and group assignments
- Presentation skills
- Exam preparation tips
Introduction to Self-Care
- Physical health and nutrition
- Mental wellbeing
- Stress management
- Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)
- Personal rights and safety

Who are the CC STARTers?
CC START is designed to be a uniquely independent yet personalized learning experience. While the student completes the modules at their own pace, their peer mentors, or CC STARTers, are just an email or a Teams message away. They are trained to provide personalized feedback on student responses and provide services referrals as needed. Over time, CC START participants and CC STARTers form lasting bonds, inspiring new students to pay their learning forward by applying to CC STARTers or other student engagement roles.
