International students holding a valid Study Permit at the post-secondary level in Canada are allowed to work off-campus on a part-time basis for up to 20 hours per week during the semester.

Are you interested in working with other students while developing skills related to event management? We have an exciting on-campus volunteer opportunity for you! 😃

Columbia College will be hosting an event for the National Indigenous Peoples Day. Learn about the Indigenous communities of Canada, while gaining valuable experience in organizing and managing a large event. 🙌

➡️The student volunteers will be responsible for:

📌Set- Up

  • Assist the Indigenous Initiatives Consultant and other Volunteers in setting up the courtyward for the event; including:
    • Setting up the tent
    • Setting up the stage for the dance and speech
    • Prepare snacks and drinks for guests

📌Crowd Management

  • Ensure the building entrances are not obstructed (Columbia College and CRA buildings)
  • Serve drinks and snacks for guests and replenishing items in a timely manner
  • Ensure the guests do not enter the stage area

📌Equipment Management

  • Assist the Indigenous Initiatives Consultant managing tech equipment (microphone, speakers, etc.)

📌Take-Down

  • At the conclusion of the event, volunteers will assist the Indigenous Initiatives Consultant with cleaning up and putting the courtyward back to its original state.

🚨Please note: Volunteers will be provided with the event layout and will have on-site support during the set-up and take-down sessions.

       This opportunity is eligible for a CCR credit!

🕙 Time Commitment: 

  • Date: Friday, June 21, 2024
  • Available shifts: 11 am – 1pm; 12 pm – 2 pm; 1 pm – 3 pm.

📑Requirements:

  • Must be available for at least 2 hours between 11 am – 3pm on Friday, June 21st. Please see available shifts above.
  • Must be available for a 1-hour mandatory training session that will go over the responsibilities, a short study module on Indigenous communities of Canada, the Indigenous Peoples Day, and Indigenous protocols.
